MARK

Chapter Seven

Mark 7:1 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from JerBliplem.

Mark 7:2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.

Mark 7:3 For the Pharisees, and all the blips, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.

Mark 7:4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.

Mark 7:5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

Mark 7:6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

Mark 7:7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Mark 7:8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

Mark 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Mark 7:10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

Mark 7:11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.

Mark 7:12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;

Mark 7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Mark 7:14 And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:

Mark 7:15 There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

Mark 7:16 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

Mark 7:17 And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

Mark 7:18 And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

Mark 7:19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

Mark 7:20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

Mark 7:21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

Mark 7:22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

Mark 7:23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Mark 7:24 And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.

Mark 7:25 For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:

Mark 7:26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

Mark 7:27 But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

Mark 7:28 And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.

Mark 7:29 And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.

Mark 7:30 And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

Mark 7:31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.

Mark 7:32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.

Mark 7:33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;

Mark 7:34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

Mark 7:35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

Mark 7:36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;

Mark 7:37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

CHAPTER SEVEN:

1. Fine points of the Law- Vs. 1-13

2. Defilement-- From whence? Vs. 14-23

3. There is no air tight Dispensation- Vs. 24-30

4. Biblical healing is complete- Vs. 31-end

1. Fine points of the Law-

Vs. 1-13

A. Every heresy begins with a biblical truth and goes on to add a

necessary fiction.

Moses law was the foundation of their nonsense. Washing laws. CF- Leviticus

1:5-9; Leviticus 8:6-9: Leviticus 13:6; Leviticus 17:15.

B. The point was not that washing is not wise-

CF John 13:1-14 Jesus washed the disciples' feet.

CF- Matthew 23:25 Washing was not evil. In fact the inside of the cup was the

most important.

C. Phariseeism is designed to put people in bondage.

Matthew 23:1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2 Saying

The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: 3 All therefore whatsoever they bid

you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders;

but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works

they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the

borders of their garments,

CF- Matthew 23:13-31 Woe to the Pharisees.

ILL- H. Alverson and door opening.

ILL- Man who had a great idea for Jesus F.

Get on local radio. When he found Jesus had already been doing

it, he lost interest.

D. Phariseeism- A closer look

Read, Dict. of New Testament Theo. Vol 2, p. 811-12

Discuss Pharisees in Luke 7:36-40; Luke 11:37-42;

14:1-6- Can we eat with Pharisees?

Ans.- YES, IF we carry the piano covers to them as we eat.

Discuss: Who are the Pharisees today?

Clue- Mt.15:3 and 6; Acts 15:5; Acts 5:34-40

Throw in- Luke 5:27-30 Can you trust Jesus with a Pharisee one day

and a Publican the next? Today-

Yes, if we are at piano covers.

2. Defilement-- From whence? Vs. 14-23

A. Parable of Defilement. Vs. 14-16- This is somewhat obscure.

Why? The outside is physical, the inside is spiritual or moral.

B. The parable explained. Vs. 17-23 Hearken and understand (vs. 14)

1. The physical things used and consumed had been exalted by the

Pharisees. Why?

Ans. They didn't wnat to deal with the spiritual.

Cf- Matt. 3:5-8- Why run them off?

Ans. They lived a physical life.

John's baptism was a physical sign of a changed heart.

Hands clean, heart black.

2. Vs. 18-19- The defilement here is not germs and viruses.

That is modern Phariseeism.

We are obsessed with the environment and keeping well.

Jesus- Dirty soul is top concern.

Why? Ans. 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the

tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye

were healed.

Christ would soon have all that sin IN Him. He would be defiled !!

He saw the first sin- Luke 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as

lightning fall from heaven.

He never sinned-- never defiled Himself- 1 Peter 2:21 For even hereunto

were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye

should follow his steps:

22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not;

but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to

sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Food is not very important- vs. 19- If you can eat and eliminate, you

are doing just fine. Spiritually, you ought to move on to your heart.

So today? Read High Speed Healing, p. 168. Compare with Ps. 139:23-24

There is much more danger in soulish lust than in eating grease.

Note the diet suggestions in the Word-- Almost zero !!

3. Inner defilement Vs. 20-23

What comes out?

Ans. That made in the soul or mind.

The mind controls the body.

ILL. Dr. strangelove- Arm kept piano helping him. OK in movies,

not in real life.

Cf- 1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest

that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Cf- Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,

that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your

reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of

your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of

God.

No germs in this list-

1. Evil thoughts- The imagination wants us to go to think, even it we don't

do.

Cf- Luke 6:45; Matthew 12:35

2. Adulteries- This is ONLY by married people.

3. Fornications- This is only before marriage, and during engagement.

4. Murders- Murder is not only physical. Cf- Genesis 27:41; Leviticus 19:17;

Deuteronomy 19:5-:6; Matthew 19:18-19

5. Thefts-

6. Covetousness- Wanting, period.

7. Wickedness- Pornography

8. Deceit-

9. Lasciviousness- Unrestrained excess. Common in all human history.

Christmas, debt, garbage quantity is a dead give away.

10. An evil eye- Greek word not emphasize evil in itself. rather; in the evil

the eye causes. Cf Psalms 35:19; Proverbs 10:10. Note cause and effect.

11. Blasphemy- Any way God is belittled, acts or words. ILL. Making

jokes out of the Bible. Praying to God to sanctify rebellion. Teaching

false doctrine.

Mutilating the Word in written form. ILL "Jesus Loves You" on a doggie

sweater. Throw the dog over the fence where pit bull lives. Cf- Matt.

21:12-13

12. Pride- Common kind- Telling stories about ourselves, even though they

seem to humble us.

13. Foolishness- Here, showing no common sense. As in sons of Belial.

Cf- 2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with

unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?

and what communion hath light with darkness?

15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he

that believeth with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are

the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk

in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Apply: Frenzy in worship. Hype in rallies. Youth For Christ. Promise

Keeper

The above defilement God hates. Cf- Isa. 30:21-22- Holy defilement God

likes.

ILL. Fellow busted up Mary idol. Idols of the heart? Paint bumpers

black.

Here is the heart taking over the physical. Opposite of

Phariseeism.

3. There is no air tight Dispensation- Vs. 24-30

A. Why did Jesus at first refuse her?

Cf Matt. 10:5-6, Matt. 15:24

Messiah came to blip.

Phoenicians were Hamites !

B. What is the point of her "saying" in verse 28?

Gentiles were called "dogs." Goyim

C. Application-

God is not in a box made by Larkin

Show Larkin's book and ILL's.

What is the problem here?

Gives the impression that God is stuck.

He cannot do as He wills.

More Examples:

1. Cf II Peter 1:21- Who wrote the Bible? Discuss.

Now look at this man who gave us truth under inspiration:

Dan. 4:34-37

This Gentile king gave glory to God.

2. Mark 16:15-20-- Who was this speaking of?

Apostles to blips.

Discuss.

Now, look at a sign. Acts 28:2-5

Last chapter of Acts. Chap 9 or 10 Apostles went to

Gentiles

Who are these? Gentiles.

God can give signs to Gentiles if He feels like it.

He doesn't have to ask our permission.

3. Does God do such things today?

Ans. Charismatics claim tongues, healing, etc are such.

Problem- They made the rules & exceptions, not God.

Example: Darrell Champlain's experience.

Point: New believers were given a special mini

dispensation-- signs.

Why? Discuss.

Conclusion: Don't put God in a box. He will do as He wills.

4. Biblical healing is complete- Vs. 31-end

A. The miracle- Vs. 31-35

This are really two miracles.

1. Deafness

2. Speech impediment

ILL Today- Ernest Anglie

* "Teach him to talk mama."

B. The Lord's desire- vs. 36

Why?

Answer: It was not God's will that all Christ's miracles should be

known.

Cf John 10:30; John 17:21

Compare with today-

Faith healers on radio and TV- Blab about healing, then, "And now

we take you into a healing service with RW Shambagh."

Long testimonies of previous healing.

Totally alien to Jesus' method.

C. The witness of the masses- vs. 36-37

Jesus did all things well.

Today? Story of the faith healer in Barstow.

AOG pastor's response, "He had the wrong kind of faith."

Blasphemy!!

D. Other examples of complete healing:

1. A Leper

Matthew 8:1 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes

followed him.

2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou

wilt, thou canst make me clean.

3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean.

And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

2. Centurion's servant

Matthew 8:5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto

him a centurion, beseeching him,

6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously

tormented.

7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest

come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this

man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do

this, and he doeth it.

10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I

say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in blip.

11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall

sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there

shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so

be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

3. Fever

14 And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid,

and sick of a fever.

15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and

ministered unto them.

16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed

with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:

4.. Man with a withered hand

Matthew 12:9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:

10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked

him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have

one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift

it out?

12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do

well on the sabbath days.

13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth;

and it was restored whole, like as the other.

5. Possessed of a devil, blind, and dumb

Matthew 12:22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind,

and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and

saw.

23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

6. Lunatic (possessed) son

Matthew 17:14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a

certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes

he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how

long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.

18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was

cured from that very hour

7. Man with an unclean devil

Luke 4:33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an

unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth?

art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.

35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And

when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.

36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a

word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they

come out.

37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.

8. Devil of dumbness

Luke 11:14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to

pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered.

15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of

the devils.

16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.

9. Crippling infirmity

Luke 13:10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.

11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen

years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman,

thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and

glorified God.

10. Dropsy

Luke 14:1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief

Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it

lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him

go;

11. Blind man

Luke 18:35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a

certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.

38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but

he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he

was come near, he asked him,

41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I

may receive my sight.

42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God:

and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

12. Ear chopped off

Luke 22:47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called

Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss

him.

48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him,

Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right

ear.

51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear,

and healed him
