MARK

Chapter Eight

Mark 8:1 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,

Mark 8:2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:

Mark 8:3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.

Mark 8:4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?

Mark 8:5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.

Mark 8:6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.

Mark 8:7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.

Mark 8:8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.

Mark 8:9 And they that had eaten were about four thoBlipnd: and he sent them away.

Mark 8:10 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

Mark 8:11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

Mark 8:12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

Mark 8:13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.

Mark 8:14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.

Mark 8:15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, bepiano coverse of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

Mark 8:16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.

Mark 8:17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?

Mark 8:18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

Mark 8:19 When I brake the five loaves among five thoBlipnd, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

Mark 8:20 And when the seven among four thoBlipnd, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

Mark 8:21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?

Mark 8:22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.

Mark 8:23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.

Mark 8:24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

Mark 8:25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

Mark 8:26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

Mark 8:27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?

Mark 8:28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.

Mark 8:29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

Mark 8:30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

Mark 8:31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Mark 8:32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

Mark 8:33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

Mark 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Mark 8:35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

Mark 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Mark 8:37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Mark 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

CHAPTER EIGHT:

1. Bepiano coverse of leaven- Vs. 1-21

2. A blind man healed- Vs. 22-26

3. "Who am I?"- Vs. 27-32

4. Peter speaks words of Satan- Vs. 31-33

5. To follow Jesus, you must....- Vs. 34-38

______________

1. Bepiano coverse of leaven- Vs. 1-21

A. The setting- another miracle- Vs. 1-9

Leaven in the loaves- Physical

Vanity- Enjoy Eccl.

B. The teaching- Vs. 10-15

(1) How is leaven used in teaching?- Ans.- SIN

Leviticus 2:11 No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the

LORD, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any

honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire.

1 Corinthians 5:6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a

little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

1 Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye

may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our

passover is sacrificed for us:

8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither

with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the

unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Galatians 5:7 Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should

not obey the truth?

8 This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.

9 A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.

(2) Leaven of the Pharisees-

(a) Then-

Vs. 10-13- Seeking a sign when thoBlipnds already

given.

Cf- John 21:25

Leaven is unbelief in the face of Christ's power.

Matthew 16:6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed

and

bepiano coverse of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the

Sadducees.

Luke 12:1 In the mean time, when there were gathered

together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch

that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his

disciples first of all, Bepiano coverse ye of the leaven of the

Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

(b) Now-

Same- Hypocrisy.

Adding canon- Apocrypha, SDAs and Ellen G. White

Charismatics- "My experience..." Second

blessing.

Also, adding to the Word. Pharisees added law. Same

today.

(3) Leaven of Herod-

(a) Then-

Matthew 2:1-8- Herod was a lying murderer.

Luke 23:6-12 Read all. Note vs. 12- "And the same day

Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before

they were at enmity between themselves."

Do you see the leaven of sin permeating Herod's acre?

(b) Now-

"We hold these truths to be self-evident-

That all men are created equal, and that they are endowed

by their creator with certain inalienable rights,

Among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...."

Is this Christian biblical truth, or is it leaven?

Psalms 144:15 Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that

people, whose God is the LORD.

Galatians 1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for

if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

1 Corinthians 9:19 For though I be free from all men, yet

have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

Philippians 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took

upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Revelation 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the

song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and

true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

Also, what about those who join Caesar in the work of Christ?

-Non-profit corporation.

-Caesar sponsors the offering plate.

Romans 8:7; James 4:4 ; Jeremiah 20:5

God will soon allow Caesar to have Christendom.

Where will the true Seed Bride be?

Furthermore; the US Constitution is null and void as of: Lincoln (inset),

Wilson (League of Nat), Roosevelt (Crash, New Deal), Kennedy (Exec, Powers Act),

Reagan (Genocide Treaty), piano (Hate Crimes Act, piano wire), and blip

(US troops under UN command).

ACLU- Soon to be a dinosaur!!

Since when do we exalt man made rights and

devices?

Also, why, "Prayer in the schools?"

Who will do the praying? Who should?

Caesar?

C. The disciples confused- Vs. 16-21

Mark 8:16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because

we have no bread.

17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye,

because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have

ye your heart yet hardened?

18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye

not remember?

19 When I brake the five loaves among five thoBlipnd, how many

baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

20 And when the seven among four thoBlipnd, how many baskets full of

fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?

(1) Then- They thought the physical was the priority.

(2) Now- Physical needs of the Church top priority.

Pastors waste life administrating.

Collecting offering- Roy McKewen and 45 min.

offertory.

Real estate- Schuler's first step to a big chu.-

parking!

Missionaries- Toy programs. Man ship lit. to Phil.

Build roads. Even good works that waste

life.

Benny Hinn- After message on Rom. 12:1-2,

invitation: Eat a banana a day, yogurt, and

walk a mile.

Application: Vs. 18-21- The physical events should

cause us to learn spiritual truth.

SO; what is the spiritual truth in the feeding of the

5000? Discuss.

D. Jesus' indignation with slow learners- Vs. 17-21

(1) Then- Matt. 16:11-12- They were not concerned

enough about the leaven of the Pharisee-- the real

polluter.

Then- Luke 9:18-22- God did not make the

Messianic offer obvious. Why? Is it still so? Discuss

Cf- John 12:36- Who frustrates Christ? Light

rejected

(2) Now- 1 Cor. 2:14- Natural man-- Who is he?

Discuss.

1 Cor. 11:29- What is not discerned?

Heb. 5:14- Some Christians never get beyond

salvation. Why?

Rev. 3:14-22- Do you see just a tad of frustration--

of holy indignation?

Do we vent such emotions on behalf of

God?

Conclude: I Cor. 5:7- Do we daily purge out leaven?

2. A blind man healed- Vs. 22-26 (Quickly)

Mark 8:22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him,

and besought him to touch him.

23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and

when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he

saw ought.

24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and

he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell

it to any in the town.

a. Vs. 22- People expected Jesus to touch the ones healed.

This is why "faith healers" today touch a lot- for credibility.

b. Vs. 23- Jesus avoided grand standing.

He didn't lead him to the temple or the Hippodrome

(explain).

c. Vs. 23-24- This time Jesus healed in steps.

So much for instant healing claims today as the badge of

truth.

d. Vs. 24- This man saw at one time.

e. Vs. 25-26- Again, Jesus tried to suppress His fame.

It was a "sign" for the one with the faith-- the one healed.

3. "Who am I?"- Vs. 27-32

Mark 8:27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea

Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do

men say that I am?

28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One

of the prophets.

29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto

him, Thou art the Christ.

30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected

of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

a. The statement- Matt. 16:16-20 (Read carefully)

Source of authority- "flesh and blood hath not revealed it"-

I.E.- Only God's Spirit illuminates us. 1 Cor. 2:14

Question: Could a RC priest lead someone to Christ?

b. The secret revealed-

"Rock"- A statement of faith.

"My Church"- This is a forpiano coversd look at the next dispensation.

"Gates of hell"- The Church age will be characterized by battle.

Jude 3; I Thes. 2:2; II Tim. 4:7-8

Destiny- The Church shall "prevail." Not Satan, Pope, or Caesar.

Victory is certain IF the Church stays with Peter's statement

To whom? Heb. 12:28- You have an unmovable kingdom.

c. Who does the binding? We saints in earth and God in heaven.

ILL. I Tim. 1:19-20- Paul had full authority in the Holy Spirit.

d. The Counterfeit- Read St. Germain: On Alchemy. p. 7, 85, 79, 281, 98

This is the Circle church doctrine. I John 4:3- The spirit at work.

e. When is the last time someone heard you declare Christ?

4. Peter speaks words of Satan- Vs. 31-33

Discuss the previous declaration of Christ-- Verse 16

a. Satan's alternative to this declaration of faith-- REBUKE.

Satan wants us to rebuke Christ.

What is the message of the rebuke? Verse 31-32

Mark 8:31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many

things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and

after three days rise again.

32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

Rebuking God- Job 40:1 Moreover the LORD answered

Job, and said, 2 Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty

instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

Do men rebuke God today?

Story One: Art O_______ when I reminded him of Jesus paying

tax.

"That's where He made His mistake."

Story Two: A teaching is given right from the words of Jesus.

Like about giving ones's second coat to a needy saint-- like His

teaching that remarriage after divorce is adultery-- like His

teaching that hell is full of maggots (skolex)-- like His teaching that

signs are for the blips. The answer comes at once, "But

do you think that's what Jesus meant by that?" OR, "Do you

think Jesus meant that for us?"

How is this a rebuke of Jesus Christ?

The answer is in Jesus' words-- that is, when the rebel questions

you when you quoted Jesus simple direct teachings-- Matt. 25:36-40

Story Three- Let us hear a man rebuke the whole Godhead. He

tells them they are not who they think they are.

Read Christianity in Crisis, by Hanegraaff, p. 123-124 as

marked.

We are to allow none of this in our presence.

b. The peril- When we get it right and please God, Satan tries to

spoil.

Our words always have a spirit behind them.

Evolution disagrees.

Source of counterfeit:

1. Human reason-- Gen. 6:5; Jer. 17:9 How is the spirit of

man?

2. Satan's agents-- 2 Thes. 2:3-4; vs. 9; Eph. 2:2

Disobedience is Satan's entree. When we disobey, he

takes over. Saul.

3. God's Holy Spirit-- I Tim. 4:1; 2 Tim. 3:16; Job 32:1-8

c. The remedy- Matt. 16:23 Rebuke of Satan or his servant

Rebuke of the saint- Luke 17:3

Rebuke of Satan's servant- Matt. 17:18; Mark 9:25;

Luke 4:41-- Key verse. We have authority to stop

the voice of devils. But we will be useless unless

we understand that they use the voices of saints

and sinners.

5. To follow Jesus, you must....- Vs. 34-38

Mark 8:34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also,

he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take

up his cross, and follow me.

35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life

for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his

own soul?

37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this

adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed,

when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Study the self-sacrifice principles

Verse 38- Study the Kingdom to come:

a. Zechariah 14

b. Joel 2

c. Zephaniah 3

d. If time, Matthew 24

When the Son of man cometh-- This is NOT the rapture. It is

the Messianic kingdom.
