By William and Gloria Gaither
Ordinarily, I often feel troubled with the doctrine in the Gaither's music. But, this hymn is truly a powerful exception. So, unless I hear some complaint from the Gaithers about our using it, here it is for you to sing along. Please don't copy and print the words for hard copy distribution.
In order to "make sin exceeding sinful," we changed "foolish" to "wicked."
I'm Free 1. So long I had searched for life's meaning, Enslaved by the world and my greed; Then the door of the prison was opened by love, For the ransom was paid-- I was free. Refrain: I'm free from the fear of tomorrow, I'm free from the guilt of the past; For I've traded my shackles for a glorious song-- I'm Free! Praise the Lord! Free at last! 2. I'm free from the guilt that I carried, From that dull empty life I'm set free; For when I met Jesus He made me complete-- He forgot how (wicked) I used to be. [ Verse 3 and 4 by your editor, Steve Van Nattan To sing verse 3 - 4 wait for the second play of the music. ] 3. I cried, O Lord, how did this happen, What price did my freedom demand? Then the Savior came near, and He whispered so low, "Come look at the prints in my hands." Refrain: I'm free from the fear of tomorrow, I'm free from the guilt of the past; I'll soon be with Jesus and sing the glad song-- I'm Free! Praise the Lord! Free at last! 4. Your destiny soon will be certain, Your debts must be paid with a price; Jesus said, "I'm the way and the Truth and the Life," Believe Him, and have Paradise. John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
