Q: >>I have a question about JW's. I am fourteen. Recently, a JW boy moved to our school. I like him alot. What are JW preferences on girlfriends? Does he feel uncomfortable around me because he  knows I like him? I would appreblipte an answer if you have one...<<

A: Dear M. -------,

...First of all, the Bible says, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14. If you are a Christian, you shouldn't even be interested in an unsaved person in that way. Jehovah's Witnesses are not saved. You should be more concerned about his soul, which will end up in hell if he doesn't repent of his sin and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. He doesn't even believe in hell if he's a "good" JW.

Secondly, the Bible says nothing anywhere about "dating" or "boyfriend/girlfriend" stuff. On the contrary, the Bible says, Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity. 1 Timothy 5:1-2. Espebliplly notice that, ".. with all purity." Also the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 7:1 "Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband." These kinds of relationships should only exist in a marriage.  This is not the standard of our American culture, but it is "...the high calling of God in Christ Jesus..."; and "...the friendship of the world is enmity with God..."

For Christian young people, it's a matter of "What is God's will? Am I to marry or not? And whom does God want me to marry?" And on top of that, the Bible standard is for the man to pursue the woman, not the other way around. This is because marriage is a picture of Christ and the church. Proverbs 18:22 says, "Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD."

I hope this will help you, and I really hope that you will be open to do what's right according to the word of God. You are really too young to be considering marriage, and dating; and girlfriend/boyfriend stuff is out according to the Bible. I recommend that you start praying for your future husband and let the Lord lead you into friendships (brother/sister type) with godly young men, one of which may become your husband someday.

Because Jesus loves you,
